ANSWERS

GENERAL:

How old is the Reading Motorcycle Club? Although research has turned up evidence of an organized motorcycle club in Reading as early as 1905, it did not officially start until 1911, it wasn't until 1914 that the club was incorporated.

Is Reading the oldest motorcycle club in the country? No. The oldest motorcycle club in existence is the Yonkers MC in Yonkers NYC, founded in 1903. There is some disagreement as to which club is the second oldest. We at Reading, consider ourselves to be the second oldest.

What is the purpose of the Reading Motorcycle Club? To promote all aspects of the sport of motorcycling, and have a good time doing it.

How long have you been located in Oley? The Club bought the property on Jefferson Street in 1928.

How many members do you have at the present time? At the present time we have approximately 1,300 members.

Are all of your events open to the general public? Most of our events are open to the general public. All racing and swap meets are public events. We do however, hold several events that are "members only" throughout the course of the year. Best thing to do is consult the 'Club Events' page to be sure.

Do all of your members ride Harleys? No. While most of our members ride Harleys, some choose to ride other brands. These other members serve as easy targets for endless good-natured ridicule from the guys on the Hogs.

ANNIVERSARY PARTY:

How long have you held the annual Anniversary Party? Our 65th Anniversary was our first annual bash back in 1979.

How can I arrange to be a vendor at your Anniversary Party? Due to the limited space available, we are not able to accommodate an unlimited number of vendors. Generally speaking, all vendor spots are taken by February. Most vendors at the Anniversary Party are repeat vendors who have supported us throughout the years at other club events such as swap meets. If you are interested in being a vendor at the Anniversary, it would be advisable for you to do likewise, as occasionally we do have cancellations. Contact the Club for more info.

My band is great. Can we play at your Anniversary Party? During the course of the year, we receive literally hundreds of demos from bands that would like to play at the Anniversary. Needless to say, we can use only a few. Most bands that make it to the stage at the Anniversary have played at least one other club event, so that we can get feedback from members as to the suitability of their particular music for the big party. Here again, most bands are booked well in advance for promotional purposes.

How can I reserve a campsite for the party? Campsites can be "reserved" (roped off) beginning at approx. 7pm on Saturday evening the week before the event. A signal is given and the race is on! Be sure to bring wooden stakes, a hammer, and some rope or caution tape. A sign to identify your spot is also helpful. Lots of fun -- not to be missed!!!

When can we set up camp? You may set up your tents, tarps, etc. as soon as Sunday morning after ropeoff day.

I have a huge air-conditioned RV. Can I bring it to the party? Sure. As long as you have roped off a spot to put it in. Do not show up the day of the event with an RV in tow and expect us to find a spot for it. As a general rule, we like to get all the RV's in by midweek since it often becomes next to impossible to maneuver them in the crowded campground. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Is it OK if I bring my dog/cat/snake/pony to your party? We would like it if you didn't but if you do be prepared to pay full ticket price for each pet.

What if it rains? You get wet.

I left my ID at home. Can I still attend your party? NO!

RACING:

How big is your track? Starting line to finish is 480' with approximately 520' of shutdown. Asphalt surface.

Are your races AMA sanctioned? No.

What are your track records? Check out the drag racing page for more information. www.RMCraceway.com

Who can race on your track? Anyone with a motorcycle, whether it's a dirt bike, sport bike, cruiser, or an all out modified. There is no better place to start a racing career.

What kinds of classes do you run? Check out the drag racing page for more information. www.RMCraceway.com

What determines payouts? A predetermined payout. Check out the drag racing page for more information. www.RMCraceway.com
